OTEC Testing in Okinawa

Okinawa Prefecture has announced the start of the OTEC operation test at Kume Island on April 15th. The main aim is to examine the expected fluctuation of electricity supply caused by changes in weather, season, and sea temperature. The testing and research will be conducted with the support of Saga University until the end of 2014.

Xenesys inaugerates OTEC R&D centre

The new Xenesys OTEC R&D Center and the Xenesys Imari Plant was inaugurated on the 9 November 2007. There are some pictures from the plant and there is a timeline with pictures.

Xenesys/Saga heat exchanger research centre

A Xenesys and Saga University joint research centre will be opened in April 2008. The centre which will house 40 employees is expected to cost 1 billion yen (US$ 8 million). Read the Xenesys press release.

Xenesys signs OTEC deal with Kuwait National Petroleum Company

OTECAccording to a Xenesys press release, they have signed a memorandum of understanding with Kuwait National Petroleum Company with regards to building an OTEC facility for power generation and fresh water production. The contract is expected to be worth about US$16 million (2 billion yen).

Xenesys wins price for DTEC

OTECXenesys wins an award for a DTEC installation, according to a news paper article on their web site. DTEC uses the same type of technology as OTEC but optimised for waste heat from industrial systems.

OTEC research positions at Saga University

Saga University’s Institute of Ocean Energy is offering six research positions for three years. However, it appears that you have to be Japanese speaking, as the application requirements are only published in Japanese and only shown on the Japanese section of the web site. (I wish they would update the English section.)
