Bureau Veritas approves KRISO Ocean Thermal Energy Converter

Neuilly-sur-Seine, France – Leading international classification society Bureau Veritas has issued its first Approval in Principle for an Ocean Thermal Energy Converter (OTEC). The approval applies to a 1MW plant developed by the Korea Research Institute of Ships and Ocean Engineering (KRISO) which will be built for installation off the coast of South Tarawa, Republic of Kiribati, in the South Pacific Ocean.

World’s largest OTEC plant connected to grid

HONOLULU, HI – Makai Ocean Engineering celebrates the completion of the world’s largest operational Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) power plant with a dedication ceremony held Friday, August 21 at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA).

Akuo Energy, Pertamina to build OTEC plant in Indonesia

Akuo Energy and Pertamina have signed an MoU for developing renewable energy projects at various sites in Indonesia. The renewable projects will concern electricity generation from wind, solar photovoltaic (PV) and ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC).

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Director of New and Renewable Energy Pertamina, Yenni Andavani, and the CEO of Akuo Energy, Eric Sotto, Akuo’s press release reads.

OTEC Turbine and Two New Heat Exchangers Arrive at the Makai Ocean Energy Research Center in Hawaii

Makai’s Ocean Energy Research Center (OERC) in Kona, Hawaii has received several major pieces of equipment for its Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) demonstration plant. Two new heat exchangers (2-megawatt thermal duty each), and a 100 kilowatt ammonia turbine-generator have arrived and are in various stages of installation and testing. Renewable energy alternatives and improvements in energy security through the introduction of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) can positively impact Fiji and the Pacific region’s economies.

The OTEC team of Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) affiliated with Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology (KIOST) had successfully finished 20kW OTEC pilot plant public demonstration.
